### 2024-12-11 · Q1D · Previous-paper question. Explain the Concepts—PR Agency and Publicity. [5 marks]

#### Answer

**Definition.** A PR agency is an external professional organisation that advises and supports clients in research, communication and stakeholder relationships. Publicity is public attention or coverage.

**In simple words.** Agency service provider hai; publicity attention hai.

## Understand it step by step

1. An agency may conduct research, plan a programme, prepare media material, train spokespeople, support events and monitor issues.
2. The client remains responsible for the truth of claims and for organisational action. Outsourcing writing does not outsource accountability.
3. Publicity may arise through independent reporting or public discussion; it can be favourable or unfavourable and need not be planned.
4. Ethical media work identifies sponsorship where applicable and supplies accurate material; publicity should not be defined as deliberately disguising promotion as news.

## See it in use

#### Illustrative example · A museum hires an agency

The agency researches local audiences, writes a factual announcement and organises media enquiries. A journalist’s independently published review is publicity. The agency’s fee means the PR programme is not cost-free.
