### Q7A. Prepare and discuss in brief a 10-pointer list to be considered in planning a Preparedness awareness program for a drought-prone area. [10 marks]

#### Answer

A drought training/awareness plan should explain local risks and give people usable actions, responsibilities and practice.

1. **Identify the audience.** Include residents/workers, visitors and people needing assistance; choose accessible formats.
2. **Explain the local hazard.** Use maps and familiar examples to describe causes, exposure and likely impacts.
3. **Teach warning recognition.** Explain rainfall, storage and water-supply indicators and the source of authorised updates.
4. **State protective actions.** Teach water priorities and assistance access rather than sudden mass evacuation.
5. **Assign responsibilities.** Identify water, agriculture, health and local government teams and describe how they coordinate.
6. **Arrange resources.** Specify communication, transport, shelter and supplies appropriate to the hazard.
7. **Plan inclusion and accountability.** Provide assistance arrangements, contact information and ways to account for people or track needs.
8. **Use safe practice.** Rehearse decisions, communication and relevant procedures; never create a real hazardous release or fire.
9. **Evaluate understanding and performance.** Observe gaps and collect feedback instead of measuring participation alone.
10. **Update and repeat.** Assign improvements, revise contacts/maps and repeat training when personnel, risks or conditions change.

#### Illustrative application · A school evacuation drill

A planned drill tests whether alarms are understood, routes are usable, people needing assistance receive it and everyone reaches the assembly point. The debrief identifies bottlenecks and changes the plan. Merely walking outside without review is an incomplete exercise.
