### Q3B. Elaborate citing any five suitable examples how new advanced technologies can be adopted in disaster management. [10 marks]

#### Answer

1. **GIS.** Overlay hazard, exposure and resource maps to support evacuation and allocation decisions.
2. **Remote sensing.** Use satellite observations to map flood extent, land-cover change or drought indicators; field verification remains necessary.
3. **Sensors and telemetry.** Rain gauges, river gauges, seismic stations and ocean instruments transmit observations for monitoring and warning.
4. **Drones.** Where authorised and safe, inspect inaccessible areas and support damage or search reconnaissance. Weather, flight restrictions, privacy and limited endurance matter.
5. **Models and decision support.** Forecast and scenario models, including appropriately validated AI tools, can support prioritisation. Explain uncertainty, check data and keep responsible human judgement.

Technology is useful only when it supports a decision and reaches the people who must act. A dashboard alone does not provide evacuation transport or a safe shelter.

#### Illustrative application · Engineering choices reduce risk

A civil engineer checks structural safety, an electrical engineer protects power systems, and a communications engineer designs warning redundancy. Their work supports the same community plan through different technical responsibilities.
