Start with the families most likely to require arithmetic: smoothed bigrams, HMM probabilities and Naive Bayes WSD. Then revise perplexity, n-gram counts and Lesk. Parsing, POS approaches, WordNet and lexical relations remain in the confirmed portion; do not remove them merely because the expected paper is mostly numerical.
| Time block | Read and work | What your written solution should contain |
|---|---|---|
| First 60–90 min | N-grams, MLE and Laplace examples | Padded corpus → vocabulary → count table → each fraction → full product. |
| Next 60–90 min | HMM transition/emission and path examples | Tag totals → transition counts → matrices → alternating transition/emission factors. |
| Next 60–90 min | WSD and Lesk examples | Class priors → vocabulary → class totals → smoothed word likelihoods → score comparison. |
| Next 45–60 min | Perplexity, POS, parsing, WordNet, NER | Definitions, one meaningful example, a tree or table where needed. |
| Final 60 min | One M2 mock under exam time | Both 2-mark questions and any two 3-mark questions; compare every step with the answers. |

Answer
If the question supplies the corpus, draw the count table before using the calculator. A long product should be built from fractions that you have already justified. Keep fractions or stored calculator values until the end.
