**Question. Briefly explain a medical chatbot and its NLP processing.** [5 marks]

### Answer

A medical chatbot accepts a patient’s natural-language message and provides an appropriately bounded response, such as appointment information or approved health education. It must distinguish intents and preserve symptoms, negations and durations.

Patient message → Tokenization + intent/entity detection → Retrieve approved information → Generate grounded response → Escalate to clinician when needed

Example: “I have no fever but a cough for three days” yields cough present, fever absent and duration three days. A safe administrative bot can suggest an appointment; it must not turn uncertain text into a definitive diagnosis. Evaluate intent accuracy, entity/negation accuracy, response correctness, privacy and escalation behaviour.
