**Question. Briefly explain any two applications of NLP.** [10 marks]

### Answer

### 1. Machine translation

Translate meaning from source to target language using a model conditioned on the source sequence. Example: English “Where is the station?” to Hindi; word order and ambiguity require context. Train on parallel corpora and evaluate adequacy/fluency.

### 2. Information extraction

Convert text into structured entities and relations. Example: “Acme acquired Beta in 2022” becomes acquirer=Acme, acquired=Beta, year=2022. Pipeline: tokenize → NER → relation extraction → validate output with source spans.
