Answer
Definition. Audience classification distinguishes the people or organisations whom an advertisement addresses and the decision roles they perform.
In simple words. Kaun kharidta, kaun use karta, kaun recommend karta—sab same person nahi hote.
Understand it step by step
- Consumer advertising: addresses individuals or households buying for personal use. Explain relevant everyday benefits, availability and a credible reason for choice. A detergent film may address household laundry needs; Ariel’s campaign additionally links the category with shared responsibility.
- Industrial / B2B advertising: addresses organisations buying equipment, components or services. Buyers may examine specifications, lifecycle cost, reliability and support, with several people involved in approval. An industrial pump message should explain operating requirements and service rather than rely only on a catchy household slogan.
- Trade advertising: addresses intermediaries such as distributors, wholesalers or retailers. They need information about stocking, supply, display, demand support and trade terms. A fictional food producer may invite retailers to stock a new pack and explain delivery arrangements. The retailer is not necessarily the final consumer.
- Professional advertising: addresses qualified professionals whose advice or use influences a decision. Technical accuracy and the standards of the field matter. Equipment information for architects should explain relevant specifications and evidence, without suggesting that an attractive advertisement proves suitability.
- Agricultural advertising: addresses farmers or agricultural decision-makers. Information may concern local crop conditions, equipment suitability, service and credible evidence. A fictional irrigation-equipment ad can explain compatible conditions and local support instead of promising a universal yield increase.
- Role overlap: a professional may be both a user and an organisational recommender. State the decision role the message primarily addresses. A buyer, user, influencer and gatekeeper may all need different information even when the ultimate purchase is the same.
